Further, the project improved the general competitiveness of the logistics companies through providing a setting for creating Pan-Baltic partnerships and easy access to ICT-tools. Achievements of the project so far:The project has collected and developed methods for planning logistics centres and developing existing ones. These are collected in a book on “Planning of Logistics Centres”, which has been published in two separate volumes. Volume I consists of the planning methodology aspects and Volume II of the case studies made to demonstrate the use of selected methods and approaches in planning of logistics centres.NeLoC has produced a “Best Practice Handbook for Logistics Centres in the Baltic Sea Region” containing information for sustainable and effective logistics centre network activities and a “Service Concept Report for Logistics Centres” comprising innovative service concepts, which can be exploited within the frame of a logistics centre. The project has created and implemented a Pan-Baltic co-operation forum for logistics centres “Baltic Sea Forum on Logistics Centres” – LC-Forum. The idea of the LC-Forum is to enable transport and logistics business to play a major role within the freight network at the wide BSR level, i.e. to put the focus on logistics centres and intermodality as well as on business and political levels. It also creates and ensures an active, dynamic and successful network. The NeLoC project has also created and implemented the NeLoC Portal serving as a generic, internet-based toolbox and including: i) business network for internal and external communication and co-operation; ii) business related intermodal Tracking and Tracing system; iii) collective or individual usage for logistics centres and companies; iv) internal and external service applications; and v) high availability, data safety and data protection. An effective co-operation network was also created as a result of the project. The network of existing logistics centres and organisations planning to establish a logistics centre will continue to operate in the future as well through the LC-Forum and possible other common projects. All the reports produced during the project are available at www.neloc.net and at Lead Partner’s homepage at http://mkk.utu.fi.
